You know the feeling. You're packing for a resort trip, and you've got the outfit sorted — the linen co-ord, the printed midi, the right sandals — and then you stare at your bag collection and realise none of them actually work.
Too stiff for the beach. Too flimsy for a day that moves from shore to lunch. Too bland to sit next to an outfit you put real thought into.
That's where this started. Not with a product brief. With a packing problem.
Before making anything, we spent time with what was already out there. We bought beach bags at different price points, carried them, wore them, overpacked them on purpose.
What we kept finding: most beach bags for beach vacations either look like they came off a supermarket rack or they're too precious to actually take to the sand. The raffia totes that photograph well fall apart after two trips. The nylon ones hold up but feel like an afterthought next to a put-together resort look.
We wanted something more useful than either. Functional enough for a real beach day. Good-looking enough to wear with beachwear that you've actually chosen carefully.
This one started as a sketch that made us laugh, then made us want it. Hand-crocheted in cotton raffia, fish-shaped, structured enough that it doesn't go floppy on you. Light, fully lined on the inside, and the kind of thing someone at the beach bar will ask you about. If you want a statement bag for a holiday and you're bored of the usual, this is it.
Not everything needs to make a moment. Sometimes you want a compact canvas tote that fits your phone, sunscreen, and a card holder without any drama. Each one is made from waste fabric offcuts, hand-knotted, and genuinely different from the one before it. The colour build is layered and tonal rather than thrown together, and it holds up well for a bag that started as scraps. We made this because a beach bag shouldn't be disposable — in any material sense.

A canvas tote that does what it says it will — holds your stuff, looks good, doesn't fall apart when you push it. Interior zip pocket, a small secondary compartment, magnetic snap. That's what we were trying to build. Whether we got there is for you to judge.
A: It has to hold what you need without being heavy or awkward. Lightweight, easy to wipe down if it gets sandy or wet, and good-looking enough not to feel out of place with a resort outfit. The worst beach bags are the ones that look fine in photos and are miserable to carry in real life.
More than you'd expect, if they're built properly. Cotton raffia bags like the Seaborn Clutch are structured and lined inside, which helps them hold shape and last longer than the flimsier versions you find at market stalls. They're not for hauling heavy groceries, but for a holiday they're solid.
A: Smaller than you think. A bag that fits sunscreen, your phone, a book, a card holder, and maybe a small towel covers most beach days. The giant totes are useful if you're going with kids. For a solo or couples trip, the mini tote or clutch sizes here are more than enough.
